Managing Job Families

Job Families are the functional groupings that sit above positions in your job architecture — for example Engineering, Sales, or HR. They let you organise positions into meaningful clusters and compare compensation across functions.

Navigate to Positions → Job Families to manage them.

The Job Families List

The list shows all job families in your organisation with key metrics at a glance. Each row displays the family name, its Parent Family, Sub-Families count, number of Positions and Employees, Status, and a range of salary columns.

Display Properties

Click the display properties '+' icon (top right of the list) to choose which columns are visible. Available fields include: Job Family, Parent Family, Sub-Families, Positions, Employees, Status, Median Salary, Median Salary (M), Median Salary (F), Average Salary, Average Salary (M), Average Salary (F), and Gender Pay Gap.

This makes it easy to surface pay equity data — such as the gender pay gap — directly in the list without opening individual records.

Filtering and sorting

Use the Filter button to narrow the list by any available field. Click any column header to sort by that field.

Creating a job family

Click + New Job Family in the top-right corner. Give the family a name, optionally assign a Parent Family (to create a hierarchy with sub-families), and optionally set a color coding. Click Create to save.

The Job Family Record

Click any job family to open its record. The record has two tabs and a persistent sidebar.

Overview tab

The Overview tab contains two sections:

  • Description — a free-text description of the job family. Toggle the Edit switch to start writing. Use this to document the scope, purpose, or typical responsibilities of the family.
  • Custom Fields — any custom fields you've configured for Job Family records in Settings will appear here.

Positions tab

The Positions tab lists all positions that belong to this job family, showing each position's Job Level and Employee count. Use this to get a quick overview of how the family is structured across levels.

Sidebar

The right sidebar is visible on both tabs and shows two sections:

  • Key Metrics — a live summary of the number of Positions, Employees, and Sub-Families linked to this job family.
  • Family Details — the family's Name, Parent (which defaults to Root Family if no parent is set), and Status (Active/Inactive). You can update the Parent and Status directly from the sidebar.

Navigating between families

Use the ← 1 of x → navigation at the top of the record to step through all job families without returning to the list.
