General information, not legal advice. This is a plain-language summary of the EU Directive. Your country's law decides the exact rules, and many countries are still finalising theirs. If you have questions, ask your HR team or your employee representative.
Under the EU Pay Transparency Directive, you have the right to clear information about pay at your workplace. Here is what that means for you.
What you can ask for
Your own pay level.
The average pay of colleagues doing the same work or work of equal value, broken down by gender.
When your employer must answer
Within a reasonable time, and at most two months after your request. Your country's law may set a shorter deadline.
Other rights
You can see the criteria your employer uses to set pay and pay progression. These must be objective and gender-neutral.
Your employer must remind all employees of the right to pay information every year.
Your employer can't stop you from disclosing your own pay for the purpose of enforcing equal pay.
You can ask for the information through an employee representative.
How to ask
If your employer uses Evenpay, use their pay information portal. See Asking your employer for pay information.
