Salary components and benefits are the building blocks of every employee's pay, such as base salary, bonuses, allowances and benefits.

Who can do this: Administrators.

Where: Settings β†’ Compensation β†’ Components & benefits.

Get started

The first time you open the page, select Initialize Configuration to load a starting set of components. The page has two sections: Salary Components and Benefits.

Add a component

  1. Select Add Custom Component.

  2. Fill in Basics: name and group.

  3. Set Behavior: the type (Recurring, One-time or Benefit) and the Value shape. See Value shapes: ranges, units, in-kind benefits and equity.

  4. Under Compensation inclusion, choose Include in Total and Include in Salary Band.

  5. Choose the Payment Frequency: Monthly, Annual, Hourly, Quarterly, Semi-annual or One-time.

  6. Choose whether to Apply FTE adjustment (Scales with working hours ratio) or keep a Fixed amount regardless of FTE.

  7. Optionally choose Calculated from a formula. See Formulas for components and bands.

  8. Save.

Assign components

Use Assign component to give a component to positions or to individual employees. You can also edit an employee's components on their Compensation tab, or for many employees at once with bulk editing.

The catalogue

The list shows each component's Group, Type, Include in Total, Include in Salary Band, FTE Adjust and Status.

Good to know

  • Only recurring components can be included in pay bands.

  • Clean Orphaned removes pay items from employees and from salary history when they point to a component definition that no longer exists. It can't be undone.

  • A CSV import can create components from columns it doesn't recognise. See Importing employees from a CSV file.

  • If you use entities, components can be shared by the group or kept local to an entity.
