Position variants

Split one position into variants that inherit its settings and override only what differs.

Variants let you keep one master position and create versions of it, for example per country or per seniority, without copying every setting by hand.

Who can do this: Administrators.

Where: open a position, then choose New variant in the Position actions menu.

Create variants

  1. Open the position you want to split and choose New variant. The dialog is titled Split [position name] into variants.

  2. Choose a Template:

    • By country

    • By seniority

    • Custom

  3. Enter the Variant titles. Use Add another for more.

  4. Select Create variants.

How inheritance works

  • A variant inherits every setting from its parent position. Inherited fields are marked Inherited.

  • You can override individual fields on the variant, such as the level or work location. Fields you don't override keep following the parent.

  • When you change the parent, variants pick up the change for every field they haven't overridden.

  • On a position in a group, the Position group switcher moves between the parent and its variants.

Promote a variant to a standalone position

Choose Promote to standalone on a variant and confirm. Evenpay copies the values it currently inherits onto it, so it behaves the same today but no longer follows future changes to the parent.

Good to know

  • Employees are assigned to the variant, not to the parent, when they hold that version of the job.

  • Pay band rules can match the variant like any other position.
