Managing grades and career paths

Use Level Mapping to add, insert and remove grades, work with sub-grades and organise career paths.

The Levels tab shows your grades, career paths and job levels. Level Mapping lays them out as a grid, with grades as rows and career paths as columns.

Who can do this: Administrators.

Where: Positions β†’ Levels, then switch between List and Level Mapping.

Add a level or career path

  • In Level Mapping, select Add Level in the toolbar, or Add level in an empty cell, to create a job level in that grade and path.

  • Add a career path with Add Career Path in the path header row (or in the empty state if you have no paths yet).

  • Drag path headers to reorder them, and drag levels between grades.

Add or insert a grade

  1. In Level Mapping, open the Add a job grade dialog in one of two ways:

    • the + button with the next grade number at the bottom of the grid (Add new grade row), or

    • Add a grade below on a grade's row header.

  2. Choose where the grade goes:

    • Above the highest grade adds it at the top and renumbers nothing.

    • Below an existing grade shifts that grade, and every grade above it, up by one number, together with their levels.

  3. If you use an evaluation framework, choose whether to update the score ranges of every grade automatically.

  4. Select Add grade. Evenpay warns you if any merit cycle rules compare level numbers, because renumbering can change what those rules match.

Sub-grades

Grades can have one level of sub-grades, such as 3.1 and 3.2, shown under their main grade.

Group, re-spread or delete grades

Select grade rows in Level Mapping to use the bulk actions:

  • Group selected… colours grades as a visual group, and Remove from group takes them out again. Groups don't change tiers or pay bands.

  • Redistribute scores re-spreads the evaluation score ranges evenly across all your grades, not only the selected ones.

  • Delete removes the selected grades and can't be undone. If job levels are linked to them, choose Detach those levels and delete the grades. Positions stay, because they attach to levels.

Good to know

  • You can have at most 30 grades.

  • Each grade can hold an evaluation score range, pay band values and custom fields. Open a grade to see its detail page.

  • Recalculate ranges in the toolbar does the same as Redistribute scores: it re-spreads evaluation score ranges evenly across all grades. If they are already even, Evenpay tells you so.
