Evenpay describes every job with a small set of building blocks. Getting them right is what makes pay comparisons, pay bands and work of equal value groups meaningful.

Where: the Positions section in the sidebar, with the tabs Overview, Levels, Families, Org Units and Evaluation.

The building blocks

Building block

What it is

Position

A specific job, such as "Senior Software Engineer". Employees are assigned to positions.

Job family

A group of related positions, such as Engineering or Finance. Families can be nested.

Job level

The seniority of a position within a career path. Each position links to one job level.

Job grade

A numbered tier that groups levels of similar value across career paths. Grades can have sub-grades, such as 3.1 and 3.2.

Career path

A track that levels belong to, such as an individual contributor track and a management track.

Organization unit

Where the position sits in your organisation chart. Unit managers see the people in their units.

Pay band

The pay range that applies to a position, set with pay band rules. See Creating pay band rules.

How they connect

  • A position links to a job level, and the level sits in a grade and a career path. Positions attach to levels, not directly to grades.

  • A position can belong to a job family and to one or more organisation units.

  • Pay band rules match on these dimensions (for example family and level) to decide which band applies.

  • Job evaluation scores positions and suggests a level. See What job evaluation is and why it matters.

What managers and employees see

Administrators see every tab. Managers see the section as Team Positions, with the Overview of positions in their units. Employees see their own position only.
